Here we are, the last day in this year’s April A to Z Challenge. I figured that I would go out with a bang, really knock out an amazing post. But as is almost always the case when I have big plans for THAT post … I have nothing!
Not to worry. Today also happens to be Monday, which means it is also the 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups day. No doubt an inspiring prompt just waiting for me to run with it. Lo an behold, ding goes the phone … bing goes the email … and a prompt arrives. This week a simple prompt: Ruby.
I still have nothing.
I have mentioned before that I have a certain character trait (flaw?) that is showing up at the moment. I am great at starting things … not so good at finishing them. Yet the odd thing is that in reality, I am not really finishing anything. It is not like I am going to suddenly stop blogging. Maybe a little less often but even that is no guarantee. I can’t really blame my lack of ideas on some perceived flaw in my character. So have I simply psyched myself out? Or am I just tired?
I thought that if I did my usual just start typing and rambling until something forms thang I might come up with something, but no such luck today. My mind is just a blind man walking in an unfamiliar place on a foggy night. I suppose I could wait until tomorrow in the hopes of coming up with something, but another character flaw (trait?) is sheer stubbornness. So I will force something out now and see if it is worth reading later.
A ruby by any other name (an ode to OPULENCE)
Oh pretty pretty shiny thing,
my attention you do get!
Shimmering there in the light,
I will have you yet!You are just a thing,
but that doesn’t matter.
As long as your pretty shininess
causes a crowd to gather.I will impress the masses,
with my shiny little stone.
Watch as they envy me,
with eyes widely grown.I could put you in a ring,
or maybe on my head.
Such a shiny shiny thing
A ruby since you’re red.But if you are another color,
should any one inquire,
We will call you another name,
shiny shiny sapphire.
A bit o’ nonzenze, and zadly nothing to do with the letter Z. But what can a perzon do?
ZE END.

A walk off winning post. There’s the game… well done!
Well I made it to the end anyway! Thank you. Kudos to you as well!!
I always enjoy reading yours as you come up with something just a bit different to the rest.
I especially like the verse:-
I could put you in a ring,
or maybe on my head.
Such a shiny shiny thing
A ruby since you’re red.
Tongue in cheek which worked rather well I’d say
Thanks! I seem to have mastered tongue in cheek (when it is not foot in mouth haha)
Just popping over from th linky … that was fab. Really enjoyed reading your poem!
Thanks! I seem to do best when I have no clue what to write haha.
Nice poem. Mine’s a sapphire, if you’re buying.
Thanks. Sadly I can’t even afford my ruby now
Zany writing is perfect for Z, well done!
That did cross my mind too Haha. Thank you!
I always enjoy the bit of fun you bring to these challenges. This “bit o’ nonzenze” was a lovely ode to shiny things.
I have written about shiny things before. I guess I like ‘em. Glad you enjoyed
What fun, wish I had the poetry knack.
Can’t honestly say I do either. Every once in a while I manage a bit that can loosely be called poetry
Love the poem. A novel take on the prompt.
Oddly the only one I could even remotely make work for me!
Yez, I approve. Zis iz fantabulous. ^_~
Zank you zo much!
Lovely post and I know just how you feel – I can manage 100 words but beyond that escapes me at the moment!
Sometimes even that much is a struggle
Love your verse! And the Z’s added a lot of personality.
Z’s are very good for personality
Glad you enjoyed!
nice write – it was a fun challenge I decided to attempt. Hope you come by and read my entry ….

Zeemz I do bezt when uninzpired. Those I actually write from inzpiration zeem to be unzuccezzful haha
What a great poem, nice take on the prompt.
Thanks! I had some fun with it!
I don’t know why you say you have such trouble getting going on these because they are brilliant. I love sapphires so…!
Sometimes I write with intent, sometimes the words basically write themselves. This was an example of the latter. Ironically it seems that I do my best writing when I don’t actually write
You make me laugh with your responses…I think inspiration is controlled creativity…when we just “GO” we become truly inspired…we’re not in control of much in this universe so why should writing be any different. You convey what I imagine to be YOU in this verse…whimsical, focused and filled with curious enjoyment! Thanks!
Thank YOU! For your kindness and for giving be a bit o’ inspiration in your words about inspiration haha. Might be able to squeeze a blog post out of it !
Good luck with that…I’ll check back to see if it comes to bear fruitz!
I make no promises it will be a tasty fruit haha. But something will emerge.
