Once again it is time for that wonder of wonders, the 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups. And once again the challenge is … well … challenging. Especially in my continued creative slump. I am not even sure I actually have the right concept of the challenge this week.
But not having a clue has never really stopped me before.
The prompt is inspired by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the UK. Since I grew up across the Great Pond, I basically have no idea what that is. Nor do I really have any concept of what it means to live under a Monarch. If I am understanding it correctly, we are to write a poem that expresses the passing of 60 years (which is also something I don’t have a full grasp on). Fortunately the prompt does not require a comprehension of either the Jubilee or a Monarchy. So here I am a non-poet trying to write a poem about something I really don’t comprehend.
Should be damned good if you ask me!
I am not sure this can technically be called a poem. Not really sure what one might call it. But this is my creation:
Eyes open. Light! Color! Sound! Stimulation! More! More ! More! People! Things! Flavors! Needs! How to get? Joy! Eat! Sleep! Joy! Grow! ..Words .. Learning .. Boundaries .. Joy .. Rules … School … Friends … Testing Limits … Grow … Slight Stress … More School … Grow…. More Rules …. Fitting In …. Stress …. Only Me …. Fear …. Fun …. Fear …. Grow …. PUBERTY ….. Responsibility ….. Respect ….. Thinking Forward …… Sexuality …… Love …… Stop Growing …… College …… Last Blast ……. RESPONSIBILITY ……. Bills ……. Work ……. Stress …….. Commitment …….. LOVE …….. Marriage ……… Kids ……… BILLS ………. STRESS ……….. Teens ………… Adults …………. Empty Nest ………….. Work …………… Stress ……………. Grandchildren …………….. Joy ……………… Sorrow ……………….. Family ………………… Ownership …………………. Gain ………………….. Loss …………………… Retirement ……………………. Travel …………………….. FAMILY ……………………… Contentment ………………………. Aches and Pains ……………………….. Slowing Down ………………………… A Life Complete Yet Not Over …………………………. What is next?

That’s original and strangely compelling. Didn’t ‘get’ it as a poem at first, but found myself thinking of it while trying to work later, so it must be powerful!
I really don’t know how one defines a poem. Poetry is kind of a mystery to me. But if this managed to stick in your head I must have done SOMETHING right haha. Thank you!
I don’t care if it is a ‘poem’ or not, I absolutely LOVE this! It certainly encapsulates the essence of the challenge – the passing time of 60 years. Very clever.
Thanks!! I wasn’t sure I actually made it work
I love it. There’s a lot od stress in 60 years isn’t there?
Haven’t made it quite that far yet myself, but I have seen my fair share of stress so far … so can only guess that there is more to come haha. Thanks!!
I like this – whatever it is. (Although, aged almost there, I don’t feel I’m slowing down or suffering aches and pains.)
You must have taken better care of yourself then me. I still have a few years to go and I am already doing both haha. Thanks!!
I like the way it starts at breakneck speed and then gradually slows, that’s a nice touch.
I am glad you noticed! I actually put much of my effort into creating that effect. It’s good to know it worked
I like it! maybe it’s a rap
Would require an interesting beat! Of I has any musical talent I’d be tempted to try.
An interesting formation.
Thanks!! Was interesting making it too!
Feeling stressed?!
Ironically the life I described doesn’t even remotely resemble mine!
That gets the mind thinking and reflecting! Lots of images captured in the words/phrases
Kind of how it was written. The reverse of that. Imagining parts if a life and choosing words that represented.
You made it work, all right. Oh yes!
Thanks!! Glad you think so!
